The biggest award in the beer industry – the “Bundesehrenpreis” was awarded on the occasion of the “German Brewery Day” in Berlin.

(DLG - Independent German Agricultural Society). The Engel Brewery in Crailsheim has received another award from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The company achieved one of the best results in the quality control of its products. The award ceremony took place on the occasion of the “German Brewery Day” in Berlin on June 13.

The Vice President of the DLG (Independent German Agricultural Society), Dr. Diedrich Harms, together with Michael Stübgen, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, presented the medals and certificates to the brewers.

“The winners of this award set a very high standard of quality for the entire industry. The recognition from the ministry, based on a DLG audit, confirms the breweries’ constant focus on an ever-increasing pursuit of quality, taste and goodness,” said Michael Stübgen, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, to the award-winning breweries.

The award is presented annually to the twelve German breweries judged to be the best following beer quality controls. The products are subjected to complex tests over a period of three months.

During the sensory analyses – which are carried out blindfolded – the technical commissioners assess whether the product has, from the point of view of smell and taste, the typical properties according to the type of beer. To this end, the purity of the taste, the quality of the bitterness, the smoothness, the stability of the taste during the storage phase and the freshness of the beer are also assessed, among other characteristics.
